Honorary Paul Harris Fellows
and the
Paul Harris Fellowship Recognition Luncheon
Paul Harris Fellow Recognition Luncheon
The San Marino Rotary Club honors one or two individuals who have made significant contributions to the greater San Marino community. We do this by donating $1000 to the Rotary Foundation in their name; thereby making them a Paul Harris Fellow. Past recipients include a minister, educators, Police Chief, Fire Chief, Librarian, School Board member, City Council member, Girl Scout leader, newspaper editor, and numerous individuals who have been volunteers for a variety of community activities. Many have had significant leadership positions.
The Foundation Committee is responsible for the selection of the individual or individuals. Recipients are announced when invitations are sent to regular attendees of the luncheon. Family members and friends of the honorees are encouraged to attend. Information about making reservations will be found on this website.
2019 Luncheon
The Paul Harris luncheon was on Thursday, March 14th, 2019, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 at the Huntington Library, Haaga Hall, 1151 Oxford Road, San Marino, CA. Our keynote speaker was our Club’s 2nd Global Grant Scholar, Gaelen Stanford-Moore who received her Master’s Degree from Cambridge University (UK) in Public Health. Gaelen spoke about Health without Wealth: Tackling International Health Inequalities as a Rotary Global Grant Scholar.
Mr. Robert Horgan was our honoree who was part of the old guard and Robert’s job now is to help make the annual Grad Night come to fruition. Robert, who has worked on 44 of the 64 Grad Nights, teaches the neophytes how to build it. Robert stepped to the microphone and talked about what a pleasure and learning experience it has been to work to help build the annual Grad Night. bRobert said “The camaraderie and friendships have taught me so much”. He thanked many people but especially Bill and Mary Payne who have been longtime supporters. Robert also commended the Rotary for their manual labor and for dealing cards and manning the gaming tables each Grad Night. Many of Robert’s family and fellow builders were in attendance to watch him receive the deserved award. Robert truly understands Service above Self.
