GLOBAL GRANT PROCESS

District 5300 (comprised of 64 Rotary Clubs) has committed one (and possibly one additionally, if remaining District funds are not subscribed) Global Grant scholarship for 2021-22.

The scholarship is for a Masters’ (or Doctorate) at any foreign university of one’s choice (where there is a Rotary Club). Kin of Rotarians may not apply. A Rotary Club may submit only one scholar applicant per year.

A scholarship is $30,1600, and its components are: $12,960 from Rotary International; $16,200 from District 5300; and $1,000 from the sponsoring Rotary Club.

In lieu of the RI Global Grant Scholar template, one may submit a one-page letter of introduction, accompanied by transcripts, resume and acceptance from the foreign university. There will be two interviews, one at the Club level and a second, by the District Global Grant committee.

If there is more than one candidate, all will interviewed back-to-back at a date in February (yet to be set). This scholarship is subject to final approval of Rotary International.

United States Military Academy Graduate Scholarship

In addition to the Global Grant Scholarship opportunity, the district is pleased to offer this year a post-graduate scholarship specifically for a graduate of West Point Military Academy or Claremont McKenna College.

This is a scholarship that is available only to students who are doing graduate work in a foreign country and are an alumni of  West Point Military Academy or currently enrolled students or alumni of Claremont-McKenna College.

The J. Carolyn and Joseph B. McMullin Endowed scholarship was created by Joe McMullin in 2011 with $150,000.  Since then it has grown to about $200,000.

McMullin was a member of the Altadena Rotary Club from the late 60s to June, 2000, served as President, and as a District Governor (1988-89).  During his presidency, his Club earned the District Best Club Award. He died in September 19, 2019, in North Myrtle Beach, SC, at 96 years of age.  He was a World War II veteran,  and is interred at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA.  Two of his sons are graduates of West Point.”
